Casilla & León

Castilla and León is the biggest autonomous region in Spain and because of this has great variations of landscape and climate. To the north of the region there are higher areas bordering Asturias and Cantabria before it drops down to the flat plains that cover the majority of the region. Because of very high summer temperatures a visit to Castilla and León is best taken outside the months of July and August when some of its gems, including the historical cities of Salamanca, Segovia and León, can be discovered without breaking a sweat.

Salamanca

Salamanca is most famous for its architecture and academia - the University has been part of the city since it was founded by Alfonso IX of Leon in 1218. It’s a relatively small and compact city with fewer than 200,000 inhabitants making it easy to explore in its entirety on foot. Although the University may not have the world standing it once did the city still has a big student population including a large number of foreign students in the city to learn Spanish. Because of this Salamanca is not only an attraction for its stunning architecture but also for its great nightlife during term time.

Segovia

León
